National Association of Enrolled Agents Welcomes New Member

Washington, DC—June 21, 2004, John H. Francis, EA has been accepted into the National Association of Enrolled Agents, according to NAEA President, Faye Touchet, EA. John H. Francis, EA joins 10,000 other Enrolled Agents (EAs) as a member of the only professional society dedicated to advancing the interests of EAs and their clients.

Enrolled Agents are tax professionals who have demonstrated their technical expertise in the field of taxation. The EA credential is earned in one of two ways: by passing a rigorous 2-day examination administered by the IRS or by working a minimum of five years at the Internal Revenue Service in a position in which the provisions of the IRS Code and regulations are regularly applied and interpreted.

Enrolled Agents are licensed to represent taxpayers before all administrative levels of the IRS for audits, collections, and appeals. In addition, EAs are the only tax practitioners required by federal law to maintain their expertise through completing 24 continuing professional education hours each year, 30 CPE hours to maintain membership in NAEA. EAs are required to abide by the provisions of U.S. Treasury Department Circular 230.

NAEA’s efforts are supported nationwide through a network of affiliated state and local chapters. Currently there are approximately 40,000 “active status” EAs. This number increases by approximately 2,000 each year. NAEA membership benefits include professional recognition, timely publications, continuing professional education programs, government representation, insurance programs, and much more.

Enrolled Agents are an excellent resource for anyone seeking up-to-date information on tax related issues. For information, contact Margaret Mitchell at (202) 822-6232 or log onto the NAEA Web site at www.naea.org. To find an Enrolled Agent, go to the NAEA Web site and click on Find a Tax Advisor or call the toll-free NAEA referral line at (800) 424-4339.
